The Garner Educational Foundation is a non-profit, community-based organization of volunteers. All GEF activities are dependent on funding provided by local entities and individuals. Individuals interested in providing a donation to GEF are asked to contact Mary Lib Perry, Chairman, or send your donation to The Garner Educational Foundation, P.O. Box 581, Garner, NC 27529.
GEF receives donations via the United Way Campaign. Individuals can make a donation through United Way by writing in "Garner Educational Foundation" as a recipient.
Specific yearly donations are needed for initiatives such as the R. W. Moore Scholarship for a senior from Garner Magnet High School, school grants, dictionaries for the SCOR volunteer reading program for second graders ($20 per student book), and sponsorships for STARS on Stage, and the Storytelling Festival.
Ongoing donations are requested for GEF sponsored rewards for the staff of the area schools, for a retirement event for Garner area schools retirees, and for specific projects in the long-range plan. Individuals interested in providing a donation for any of these expenses are asked to contact Marjorie Barefoot.
Grants to Schools
The Garner Educational Foundation, with support from the Town of Garner, Wake County, and various community groups, businesses, and individuals, offers a variety of recognitions and grants for Garner-area schools and staff members. Each year, the GEF Board will determine provision of school grants. Past grants have provided funds for technology purchases at each school from digital cameras, computers, and scanners to flash drives and for professional development and specific student programs. A recent goal of GEF and the schools is to use such funding for establishing video production studios at each elementary school and ensuring the middle and high schools have appropriate video and production equipment.
